The Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network will comprise the Wetland Reserve, the Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat and Kranji Marshes, nature areas like Jalan Gemala and Kranji Reservoir Marshes as well as nature parks and eco-corridors.
A new nature park network will be established in the northern part of Singapore as part of efforts to make Singapore a city in nature, announced National Parks Board (NParks) on Wednesday (19 August).
Covering more than 400 hectares, the Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network will comprise the Wetland Reserve, the Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat and Kranji Marshes, nature areas like Jalan Gemala and Kranji Reservoir Marshes as well as nature parks and eco-corridors.
The network safeguards wetland habitats, while strengthening the conservation of wetland biodiversity within the northern part of Singapore.
NParks noted that the network will be complemented by the Round-Island-Route (RIR), an upcoming recreational route that connects various green areas through trails and park connectors.
It will also include an 18ha green corridor, which was formerly known as the Western Extension and now referred to as Lim Chu Kang Nature Park.

The new nature park “will feature outdoor nature-play spaces inspired by the various habitats and its inhabitants, encouraging children and youths to spend more time outdoors and reconnect with nature”.
It will also include Cashin House, “a building that will be enhanced sensitively for both natural and built heritage and will be used for educational programmes”.
In fact, NParks is set to call a tender for works on Cashin House as well as its surrounding areas.
To start in Q4 2020, construction works at Cashin House is expected to be completed by early 2022, subject to the Covid-19 situation.

Notably, the surrounding area of Cashin House will be kept rustic, while the existing vegetation will be retained and sensitively enhanced.
With the completion of works, Cashin House will feature new facilities such as seminar rooms for workshops, an exhibition space and a seaview terrace.
“With the Sungei Buloh Nature Park Network, the public can look forward to more than 15km of trails to explore and experience nature,” said NParks.
