Broadway Malyan designing new 'health city'

10 Sept 2013

The Singapore-based team of architect Broadway Malyan has been tasked
to design Health City Novena, a new mega healthcare development to be
built around Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The plan is to link existing
medical facilities and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine to create
the largest healthcare complex in Singapore, which will also host a new
National Skin Centre.

Floor space will also be increased by
replacing low-rise buildings with space-efficient multi-storey blocks.
The number of beds will also be ramped up by 25 percent to 2,200.

To
be completed in 2030, the complex aims to serve patients within Central
Singapore, where the local population is ageing faster compared to
other parts of the country.

Spearheaded by Tan Tock Seng
Hospital, Singapore’s Health Ministry and the National Healthcare Group,
the health city will offer a full range of acute to intermediate and
long-term care and holistic care services, as well as wider research and
education, leisure, commercial and public spaces.

“The public
launch is a major milestone in the delivery of this exciting project and
our team of world-class master planning and design experts is working
in close partnership with the client’s team to deliver a scheme which
transforms the experience of patients and the range of healthcare
services in Central Singapore,” said Practice Director Ian Simpson.
