$40k is below average for an active agent. Most people will be closing more than that. Then again, I've seen people drawing more tha $150k salary in their job but was not able to close $20k of deals as an agent.

Not everybody will perform the same. You must be passionate about real estates and are hungry enough to work hard and work smart.

You also need a good mentor, a strong coach to guide you to the right direction. I lead a growing team of 20+ agents and I guide each one of them differently as each person is different.
