I'm Singaporean and my husband is a foreigner (considering to apply PR). We have a son who is a Singaporean.
We are considering to buy a property here as we are quite sick of rental and also we would like to ensure our child has a place to stay should we pass on/for the future.

I'm not working and my husband is the sole breadwinner. We cannot buy a brand new HDB or EC due to his income. So we are stuck with option of Condos or resale HDB.

Before we had our child, we stay in a 1700sqft condo. After our child is born, we move to a cluster house (current place) of about 5000sqft.

We are frustrated with the size of new properties and felt that the price of resale condos do not justify. We are also considering to buy an overseas property for our retirement. We are both in our mid 40s so loan tenure is also a limitation for us.

We felt that we can't seem to wait any longer due to our age. At the same time, we felt the prices here are super expensive and it would not justify putting our eggs in one basket (considering we want to live overseas later).

So we are stuck in a dilemma, should we buy a resale hdb or a resale condo or a condo? We cannot seem to get our heads around it and don't know what we should consider, the pros n cons etc.

Please advise how we should organise our thoughts and get through this so that we can own a property here and leaving it for our son. Thank you.

Hi Mdm,

Based on your current profile, if you're planning to take a loan for the property purchase, you can probably only consider private housing. You can only purchase a resale HDB (and take a loan) if your Husband converts to SPR. If not, the HDB flat will have to be fully paid up under your name.

You also mentioned you're ineligible for EC due to your Husband's income. This means that his income exceeds $16k. For this, you may wish to consider private condo, with him taking up a loan.

And I agree with you that you should not be renting any further, especially with the rental prices sky high now.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.
