I am renting a bed in a 3-room flat. Am I still liable for stamp duty?

I read that normal market practice is that tenants usually have to pay the stamp duty if it is not indicated in the tenancy agreement. But if this cost is to be borne by the tenant, are we required to pay upfront when signing, before we move in or after we move in?

Hi

Technically speaking, you have to pay before signing the tenancy agreement, but the usual practice is to pay upon signing the tenancy agreement. It should not be paid later than 14 days if it was signed in Singapore and no later than 30 days if it was signed overseas, to avoid penalty charges.

It is definitely better to engage a property agent to help you throughout the process so as to ensure everything is done smoothly and hassle-free, for peace of mind.
