Hi, I have been working overseas for years and wish to purchase a hdb from open market this year end in view of the rising cost (as I will be back in Singapore in 2 years time). After purchase, I intend to lease the whole unit out, is it possible? Understand that the lease period will not be counted for MOP. Another option is I locked up 1 room(or let a relative stay there) and rent out the other 2, will this be allowed and still counted for MOP.Thanks....

Morning jomsom,

Under current HDB rules and regulations, sublet of whole unit is only allowed after you fulfill your MOP period of 5 years. Which in this case, it's not possible to sublet whole unit immediately after your purchase.

If you sublet rooms out, you must register with HDB within 7 days from the subletting date.

You must also remember owner must stay in the unit itself if not, the period will not be counted into the MOP period. (as long as one of the owners stay in it and you can continue to work overseas)

Hope I can assist you further in your HDB purchase.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Warmest Regards,
