Hi - I have a 3 storey inter-terrace with an open airwell in the middle. Currently the Airwell is completely open to the elements at the roof but I'd like to install a clear skylight on the roof to cover the airwell - which would allow light and block out the rain. Airwell is about 6 foot x 6 foot - squarish. Does anyone have any experience doing this in Singapore ? I would like to know what kind of options I have and roughly how much it would cost.

Hey! Installing a clear skylight over your 6x6ft airwell in a 3-storey terrace is definitely doable. It’ll let in a lot of natural light while keeping out the rain.

Here are some friendly pointers:

Options:
• Fixed glass skylight – simple, low-maintenance, keeps rain out.
• Retractable/louvered skylight – you can open it for ventilation, but costs more and needs a bit more upkeep.
• Polycarbonate/acrylic – cheaper and lighter, but may yellow over time.

Rough costs:
• Fixed glass: ~SGD 1k–3k
• Retractable: ~SGD 2k+
• Polycarbonate: ~SGD 800+

Tips:
• Make sure the roof can support the skylight.
• Proper sealing is a must to avoid leaks.
• Check if you need any permits.
• Professional installation is recommended.

Maintenance is mostly cleaning and checking seals; retractable types need a bit more care.

It’s a great way to brighten up your home! Read More
