Hi Guru, I'm PR and own a HDB at Singapore
I would like to check if i give up PR, do i need to sell my HDB?
Any specify period?
What will happen if i'm still cant sell my HDB during the specify period

Hi Wee Khang,

If you give up your PR status, then you will need to sell your HDB flat as you will not be eligible to own it anymore.

Maybe what I can suggest is you can contact me and I can advise you over the phone as it is easier to explain certain things.

Hi Wee Khang,

Yes once you relinquish your SPR status or did not renew it, you are required to sell off the HDB as you are no longer eligible to keep it. HDB will require you to sell on the open market, usually within a stipulated time period. As such, it may be better to market the unit first before giving up the SPR status. I have worked with Filipino clients with similar scenarios and would be happy to advise the best approach based on your requirements.

Duration to sell and other conditions will be based on HDB's discretion.

Dear Mr Chong,

When you give up your PR status, you will no longer be eligible to hold on to a HDB flat. HDB will give you a grace period to dispose off your unit but it will be advisable to start early.

I have assisted clients in a similar situation as yourself before. I am currently also assisting a chinese SPR couple who are giving up on their SPR status to sell their HDB.

Yes, you are not eligible to hold onto a HDB flat should you relinquish your PR status. You will be required to sell it off in the open market.

My advice to you would be, to sell off the HDB flat first, before you proceed to relinquish your PR status.

I have recently helped an Indian PR sold off their HDB flat which was met with Ethnic quota issues. Thankfully, we managed to find the right buyer for him, and we are now awaiting HDB completion for him to get back his sales proceeds from the flat.

I will be able to assist you in the sale of your HDB flat too. As long as it's not faced with HDB ethnic quota issue, I believe your flat can be sold within your expected timeframe.
