Hello, we are a family of SPR and after years of renting we want to buy a flat in Singapore. We are very interested in purchasing an EC flat. As SPR, could you please tell me what are the conditions to buy an EC? and how could we start the search? Thank you and regards, Fernando

As a SPR, you will be able to get an resale EC unit from the open market that is of 5 years or more from TOP.

You will not be eligible to purchase for a new EC development.

There are total of 25 ECs that met MOP till date. Out of which 2 of them had just met the 5 yrs mark, both located in Punggol.

Hi Mr Fernando,

If you and your spouse are both PR, then you are not eligible to apply for a brand new EC. You can only look to purchase a resale EC that has past its 5-year MOP period.

A resale EC has all the facilities, just like a private condominium. You may wish to explore your options of getting a condominium too.

Before you start your search, it would be necessary to get your loan assessment done, so as to know the budget you're working with. Once you have your budget in mind, you can then start to shortlist the suitable properties for your family.

    Hi Robbie; thank you very much for your answer. I think you bring an interesting point to the table: buying a condominium versus a 5yr old EC.
    Both are effectively condominiums although the EC will need 5 more years until it officially is a condominium.

    In terms of price, is there a difference between a 5yr old EC and a condominium?
