A new integrated development is set to rise at Chong Pang City. Featuring swimming pools, fitness studios, a gym, commercial shops as well as an upgraded community club and a replacement hawker centre and market.
To be called Chill @ Chong Pang, the 0.9ha integrated development is set for completion in 2027 and will upgrade the existing amenities at Chong Pang City. Construction works will begin in the second half of 2022, revealed the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), the People’s Association, the National Environment Agency and Sport Singapore in a joint release.
It will sit on the sites presently occupied by the Chong Pang Community Club and Block 102 Yishun Avenue 5 – a four-storey HDB commercial block that will be acquired by SLA.
SLA has gazetted the affected land’s acquisition and will assist the affected tenants and shop owners through the acquisition process.
Block 102 comprises 17 sold shops as well as 51 shops rented out by HDB. A portion of the surface car park will also be affected.
Minister K. Shanmugam, Adviser to Nee Soon GRC grassroots organisations shared that the Chong Pang Community Club has been in the same building since he became Grassroots Adviser 32 years ago.
“The Chong Pang Market and Food Centre was built in 1984. Many residents have been asking me when these facilities will be upgraded. I am excited to announce these upgrades today. The new integrated development will bring more vibrancy to Chong Pang City and give all Yishun residents more convenient recreation and lifestyle options,” he said.
Hawkers and stallholders at Chong Pang Market and Food centre can relocate to the new development once completed.
“Until then, operations will continue at their current site,” said the release. “NEA and HDB will work closely with the affected stallholders and kiosks’ tenants respectively on the relocation to minimise disruption to their business operations.”
It added that the vacated site will be redeveloped into a community plaza by 2028.
