Residents of the upcoming Bidadari estate can look forward to a rustic landscape with rolling hills, a unique rain tree “island” in the middle of a lake and a boardwalk across marshland, reported The New Paper.
This comes as details of Bidadari Park were revealed by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) team leading the development of the project.

Nestled snugly among the residential blocks, the park will account for 10 percent of the estate’s space.
To be completed progressively by 2022, the Bidadari estate will feature 10,000 Housing Board units.
Leonard Cai, HDB’s building and research institute deputy director (landscape design office), revealed that the HDB team worked to retain as much of the estate’s natural woodland as possible.

“We went down to the site to map out the position of trees, (to see) where are the areas with the least amount of vegetation so that we could place new trails there, so as to cause the least disturbance to existing biodiversity.”
Nature groups were also engaged by the team in order to identify and retain “bird studios” frequented by birds, he added.
Meanwhile, park features like the lake, viewing sheds and trails have been designed around trees.
A rain tree on a little island will serve as Alkaff Lake’s focal point, while a playground will be built around a banyan tree. Over 350 trees, including a century-old tembusu tree, were retained.
Overall, the park will have over 2,000 trees, including over 150 species – some of which are critically endangered – transplanted from other areas.
Based on the Nature Society’s (Singapore) suggestion, an eco-link bridge shared by both wildlife and park users will also be built to connect Hillock Park and Bidadari Park.
