Building a solid wealth foundation

The placement of a fish tank or koi pond near the main door of your house can boost prosperity, say feng shui practitioners.

One of the easiest ways to increase wealth is by incorporating basic feng shui techniques. One such example is the flying star method, which maps out the flow of positive energy in your house.

An empire of wealth means nothing without a strong foundation capable of weathering the storm. Without a secure base, you run the risk of losing it all. Big-ticket investments (houses and cars) or bonds won’t clean out your coffers. Instead, I’m more concerned about the small investments.

As such, maintaining wealth levels begins at home. Practicing the right feng shui serves as a solid wealth foundation. This is because feng shui is about tapping into the flow of qi correctly. It generates positive energy which maintains the right mindset in the pursuit of wealth, and also teaches extreme caution regardless of the investment nature or volume.

Getting started

When it comes to using feng shui to enhance wealth, one must first know the type of qi that can promote such opportunities. To ascertain the location of this prosperous qi, practitioners use certain methods of calculation based on the school of feng shui they follow.

Like time, qi is dynamic and cyclical. This cycle of qi is important in the flying star feng shui discipline. Each cycle of qi lasts 20 years, and under this discipline, no location within a house is permanently good or bad. The flying star discipline helps to identify the prosperous location within a house based on a given time period.

Direction of your property

The first step is to determine the facing direction of your property. This is the direction your house is built to face, or where the main façade of your property is located. This is not necessarily the direction your main door faces, which is a common assumption that is not always accurate depending on the property.

After ascertaining your property’s facing direction with a feng shui compass, also known as a Luo Pan, you need to find out the feng shui period of your house. If you moved into your house anytime between 2004 and 2023, it is considered a period 8 house. If the move was anytime between 1984 and 2004, it is a period 7 house.

Feng Shui time periods

After establishing the facing direction and the right period of your house, use the flying star chart which maps out the qi of your property. Superimpose the map of your property on this chart and it will reveal different sectors of the house.

Next, you will need to understand the difference between facing stars and sitting stars on the flying star chart. Facing stars deal with the aspects of wealth, while sitting stars represent health and relationships. For wealth accumulation, simply locate the facing star 8 and its corresponding room.

Main door as the qi mouth

If your main door is not at the facing star 8 location, don’t worry. Make sure that the area surrounding your main door is uncluttered and unobstructed to allow the positive qi to flow and circulate around your property. You can also place an aquarium or water feature by the main door, since water is a yang form suitable for the activation of qi. But do not allow any water to stagnate. Having fish keeps the water active and adds aesthetic value.

If you cannot use the facing star 8 location, or it does not allow for the placement of a water feature, you can look for the facing star 9 location, the prosperous qi for period 9. Placing a main door or water feature at that location may not produce instant results, but it lays the foundation for wealth in the next period.

Which way for wealth?

There isn’t a standard universal wealth direction for everyone. Even within a row of houses facing the same direction, the effectiveness of the prosperous qi can vary based on the context of individual destiny. Living in a house attuned to your personal destiny can give you an edge in seizing the right opportunities for wealth.

I tell all my clients that if they only pay attention to the feng shui for their interiors, they would be putting the cart before the horse. This is because the external environment of your house is where qi comes from.
