Yuhua is the first existing HDB estate to go smart.
The Housing Board has teamed up with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to offer smart home packages to 3,200 households in Jurong’s Yuhua estate, reported The Straits Times.
Both agencies jointly held a two-day roadshow at Yuhua Community Club over the weekend, where residents could buy the packages at a discounted rate for as low as $10, following a successful pilot in ten homes.
“This is part of a larger year-long trial to gain a deeper understanding of how smart technologies can benefit more families,” said Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, during the event’s launch.
Among the packages showcased was a monitoring system for elderly residents who live alone. Through this system, caregivers and family members will be alerted via a text message if the resident presses a panic button, or if the sensors detect irregular movement patterns, such as prolonged stillness.
There is also a mobile application that updates homeowners on the household’s electricity and water usage per week. Aside from receiving a warning when consumption exceeds the set target, they can also remotely turn off their appliances via the app.
According to Fu, these packages aim to help families with the daily challenges they face at home.
