I am owning a HDB flat for 9 years under Sibling scheme with my sister (we were both PR when we purchase the flat).

I have recently converted my citizenship to Singaporean. However, my sister can no longer retained her PR status. At the same time, I am getting married and will be leaving with my husband (who is already owning a HDB flat).

As my sister is leaving overseas now and will not be able to travel to Singapore anytime soon, what are the options that I have in order to release the flat:-

a) wait till I'm 35 (next year), transfer the flat to me as single ownership and resell it? OR

b) Obtained POA from overseas and apply for resale now?

Hi Suet Ting,

One problem that you may face if you want to transfer the ownership to you is that you may need to top up whatever amount of CPF that our sister had used for the flat. If your sister had use $30,000 of CPF, you need top this amount to her account in CPF or cash.

Therefore, I strongly advise you to sell your flat now. It will be better to do the POA locally if she had not left Singapore. Charges should be less than $300 if she does it here, the lawyer just need 1 day to prepare the document.

    Thanks for the response. She has already left Singapore now. I was told by HDB that even though there is a POA, she will still needs to be present (in SG) during the resale application process to sign the doc.

    Subsequently with the POA, the 1st & 2nd appointment, I can sign on her behalf. Am I right?

    I'm not particularly concerned about paying the amount that my sis had contributed in her CPF because I'm the sole contributor at the very beginning. All deduction are from my CPF alone as she is self employed. Hence, no CPF.
