Hi there, I'm intending to apply for a proximity grant near my mother in law, however, her concerns are if she were to change her ic address back to her private property (Punggol) she wouldn't be able to sell the private property later?
She is currently staying at AMK with her sister. Her actual own property at Punggol is renting out. Her IC address is stated at AMK instead of Punggol. The proximity distance I require is from Punggol Would this in any way affect my proximity grant?

Hi

Yes you mother in law concern is valid although not exactly accurate. If you apply for a proximity grant under your mother in law, your mother in law needs to sign an undertaking that she will maintain the 4km distance from your house for the next 5 years. This means if she do sell her private property before 5 years, she must move to a place that is still within 4km radius of your house in Punggol. I am specialised in HDB transactions. Hi,

1) There is more than changing your mother-in-law's address.
2) Her property at Punggol is rented out. Meaning IRAS aware that she is not staying there. Unless tenant did not pay TA stamp duty, which is against the law by evading tax.
3) When you apply proximity grant stating your mother-in-law is staying within 4km of your purchase. And both of you have to sign the undertaking that she is staying in Punggol and promised not to stay 4km away for the next 5 years.
This is a false declaration if she did not take back her property and stay in.
4) Suggest not to take this risk. The consequence is humongous.
