HI,

question on ABSD.

My wife is a PR and does not own any Singapore property.

I owned a condominium.

I read online property guru discussion that if my wife is to buy her first Singapore property (private), she is not subjected to any ABSD as she is a PR married to SC.

Is this true?

Hi Zhengqian,

Unfortunately no, in your case, for her sole name purchase, it is not considered matrimonial property, hence the ABSD of 5% still applies for her 1st residential property.

She may only apply for remission of ABSD only if you sell off your unit and bought another private property together with her as this will be considered your matrimonial property. Hi Zhengqian,

Your Wife will not incur ABSD if she co-purchased the property with you, as both your first matrimonial home. This will require you to sell off your existing private property.

If she purchased under her sole name, ABSD is at 5%.
