hi, I am a Singaporean and wish to buy condo in Johor now, I have a few questions below:

- some property price in Johor now foreigner can purchase is like ard RM 710,000. May I know is it real or there is some hidden thingy? Knowing that the min price for foreigner to purchase property in Johor is RM 1 mil.

- I heard lots of negative comments about now is not a good time to invest in Johor Property, but what if I just want to buy a freehold property in Johor like Country Garden Danga Bay and retire there then will not sell and pass to my childrens?

- If I haven't reach my HDB MOP 5 years and go buy the Johor property, will the SG and Msia government or bank loan check on me?

Thanks

Hi Vincent,

Even if you are keen to purchase overseas property, you would still need to hit the MOP of your HDB flat first. You may check with the HDB branch office of your estate for more clarification.

Hi Vincent,

The minimum purchase price to buy a property in Johor is RM1 million. However, there is no minimum purchase price for properties located within Medini. There is a catch though - a lot of banks do not provide financing for such properties in Medini.

There is currently a massive oversupply of serviced apartments, condominiums and landed properties in Johor. As such, capital appreciation is likely to be minimal while your rental will not likely cover your mortgage.

You cannot buy an overseas property if you have not met your Minimum Occupation Period (MOP). The government can find out if you had purchase a property overseas and you may likely have your HDB flat confiscated. It is better to err on the side of caution.
