Hello!
May I ask if the stamp duties payable is different if the parent decides to gift or sell one of his existing private properties to his daughter at below market rate?
Is there any advice to reduce stamp duties in this case? (Currently Own 0 Property)

Hi Remy,

There are lots of info missing in your queries. I'll try my best to answer.

1) Stamp duty for property is standardized across the board. There are no exceptions in whatever type of properties and way of purchase.

2) Do note that IRAS charge stamp duty according to market value, thus any form of methods trying to reduce or evade tax aka stamp duty is a form of crime.

Stamp duties are applicable based on the market value of the property regardless of the selling price, therefore there is no way to reduce the stamp duty applicable. The main difference between gift and sale is that you are now allowed to sell the property within 5 years from gift as it is subjected to bankruptcy act.

Hi,

Stamp Duty is to be paid based on the transaction price or valuation price, whichever is higher. So even if you sell a $2m property to your daughter at $1, you will still have to pay stamp duty based on market value of $2m.
