Have fully paid hdb flat and stayed more than 10 years. Should I get a private condo instead of EC so that I can keep the hdb for rental income for life? Getting an EC will not allow me to keep the hdb. But new EC is so much cheaper by 25% than a similar private condo. EC also usually in good location near to mrt and amenities. For private property in location, the price is out of our budget. But rental income is quite a lot over long term.

Hi Mongol,

Based on my opinion, you should buy a private condo instead of EC provided you can afford the initial downpayment.

The reason is very simple, if you buy EC and sell HDB, you get zero rental income so back to square one. However, if you buy a private and rent out either one, you can get rental income and cover your monthly instalment.

Hope that I had answered your question and it make sense to you.

Feel free to contact me if you need my assistance.
