Separately, the government has also released five confirmed list sites and eight reserve list sites for the 1H 2022 GLS programme.

To meet “strong” housing demand, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) will launch up to 23,000 new Build-To-Order (BTO) flats annually over the next two years, reported Channel News Asia (CNA).

This marks a 35% yearly increase from the 17,100 units launched this year.

HDB shared that the new launches in 2022 and 2023 will be spread across mature and non-mature towns, such as Bukit Merah, Kallang Whampoa, Jurong West, Tengah, Queenstown, Yishun and Toa Payoh.

“The increased supply of flats will provide more housing options for young couples planning to start their marriage and parenthood journey, as well as for second-timer families, multi-generation families, the elderly, and singles,” it said.

HDB added that it is prepared to “launch up to 100,000 flats from 2021 to 2025, if needed, subject to prevailing demand”.

It noted that demand for public housing has significantly increased in recent years, with BTO application rates increasing to 5.5 times in 2021 from 3.7 times in 2019.

HDB attributed the hike to the rising number of marriages and the rising trend of smaller households. The buoyant resale market and pandemic related factors also boosted demand for BTO flats.

With this, HDB assured that it will continue to watch the construction of current BTO projects to ensure that they will be delivered on time.

“We will continue to develop new housing areas in the future and ensure that public housing remains affordable and accessible for Singaporeans,” it said.

Separately, the Ministry of National Development (MND) announced that the Government Land Sales (GLS) programme for the first half of next year will feature five confirmed list sites as well as eight reserve list sites.

It revealed that the sites could yield around 6,500 private housing units, 530 hotel rooms and 90,000 sq m of gross floor area (GFA) of commercial space.

The confirmed list will have five private residential sites, which include an executive condominium site. They are located in Pine Grove, Dunman Road, Lentor Central, Lentor Hills Road and Bukit Batok West Avenue 5.

These sites can yield around 2,785 private housing units, including 495 EC units.

The reserve list, on the other hand, comprises five private residential sites (which includes an EC site located at Tampines Street 62), two white sites (at Woodlands Avenue 2 and Kampong Bugis), and a hotel site. Overall, the sites could yield 3,715 private homes, including 700 EC units, 530 hotel rooms and 90,000 sq m GFA of commercial space.
