While she had paid the full amount for the renovation of her flat in Compassvale Crescent, Sengkang, she noted that works at her five-room unit are still far from being completed.
“(The contractors) promised to do the air-conditioning, painting, carpentry and everything else for S$38,600. They said they would finish by the first week of March,” said the owner, who wanted to be known only as Madam Siti.
She had consulted 6ix 5 Design Studio in December 2016 and paid the company’s director, Kannie Wong, the full amount in February, reported The New Paper.
Her home, however, remains to be renovated to this day, prompting her husband to file a police report against the contractor.
“They said they had an internal conflict, so they weren’t able to finish the work. If I wanted them to complete the job, I would have to pay $7,000 more.”
A visit to the 6ix 5 Design Studio’s office at City Plaza showed an empty shop as the landlord had cleared out the unit on 14 April due to the company’s failure to pay rent.
A spokesman for Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) revealed that the association had received three complaints and one filed case against the company from June 2016 to April this year. One other client has also made a police report.
Wong also failed to show up last Thursday (27 April) for a Small Claims Tribunal consultation, said Madam Siti.
When contacted for comment, Wong said he was unable to attend the consultation as he was overseas. Admitting that the company was having financial difficulties, he explained that they had no plans to cheat their clients.
“When I am back, I will meet up with them to see how to settle the case.”
