A 28-year-old man allegedly used a fake Housing and Development Board (HDB) contract to scam victims, reported Channel NewsAsia.

In a statement, the police said they had received reports from members of the public last December that the suspect had duped them into investing in a project.

The suspect had allegedly presented the victims with a contract, which was supposedly awarded by the HDB, to install a “Security Smart Home System Camera” for 500,000 households. However, upon checking with the HDB, the victims discovered that no such contract existed.

Two victims had given the suspect a total amount of $26,000, said the police.

The suspect will be charged in court today (5 August) with the offence of cheating, which has a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.
