8 fascinating facts about Jurong Lake District

The overwhelming response for Lake Life EC has put the spotlight on one of the hottest addresses in Singapore – Jurong Lake District.

More than 1,200 e-applications were received over the long weekend, but there are only 546 units available at the 99-year leasehold project.

Much of the hype is due to the location, which is undergoing a major transformation. In his recent National Day Rally Speech 2014, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that Jurong is set to be the next jewel of Singapore.

With big plans in place for Jurong, here are some interesting facts about the region.

Quick facts about Jurong Lake District:

1.    Occupying a total area of 360ha, or the size of Marina Bay, the Jurong Lake District comprises Jurong Gateway and Lakeside.

2.    Jurong Gateway is one of three regional centres in Singapore, the other two being Tampines and Woodlands.

3.    The area around Jurong Gateway will provide 500,000 sqm of office space, 250,000 sqm of retail, F&B and entertainment space, and about 2,800 hotel rooms.

4.    Around 1,000 new housing units will be developed near Jurong East MRT station.

5.    Lakeside will cover more than 220ha of land and 70ha of water, and will be a leisure spot for locals and tourists alike.

6.    To be ready by 2017, the Jurong Lake Gardens will integrate the existing Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden and Jurong Lake.

7.     A new Science Centre will be built adjacent to the Chinese Garden MRT station. The centre is expected to be completed in 2020.

8.    The high-speed rail station linking Singapore to Malaysia could possibly be located in the Jurong Lake District. It is targeted to be up and running by 2020.
