Following persistent lobbying by residents and Holland-Bukit Timah GRC MPs Liang Eng Hwa and Vivian Balakrishnan, The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has given the green light for a third MRT entrance in Senja, Bukit Panjang.

According to an LTA spokesperson, the agency carefully studied the possibility of building a third entrance based on the regular feedback it received.

To be built near the bus stop in front of Block 605 on Bukit Panjang Road, the new entrance is expected to enhance the planned pedestrian network and connectivity of transport nodes to nearby amenities and facilities, as a result of new developments including the upcoming Build-to-Order (BTO) projects in Senja – Senja Gateway, Senja Parc View and Senja Green.

The spokesperson also said that the new entrance will “help distribute commuter flow and provide commuters with greater convenience”.

Meanwhile, MP Liang Eng Hwa said he was glad the LTA “was open-minded enough to re-study the case and thereafter work hard to overcome the various design and funding issues”.

“If you evaluate this entrance on a standalone basis, it doesn’t make financial sense. But if you look at the whole Downtown Line, it does. It’s such a big project, it doesn’t make sense to not provide smooth connections,” he added.

Construction of the new entrance will start by the end of this year and is expected to be ready in December 2016.
