In a bid to promote green living, City Developments Limited (CDL) unveiled an innovative feature at the 380-unit Lush Acres executive condominium (EC) that allows residents to grow vegetables using hydroponic technology.

Touted as the first-of-its kind in Singapore and the region, the Agri-Cube Hydroponic Farm at Lush Acres, which launched in July, “creates a new dimension of community gardening through utilising green technology and smart usage of spaces that facilitates community bonding amongst residents”, said a CDL spokesperson.

It will occupy an area of about 120 sq ft, while the development cost is believed to be within two percent and five percent of the entire project’s construction cost. Aside from being customised, the hydroponic farm will also be installed with photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption.

CDL will initially grow the vegetables and facilitate training for the residents through the property’s management corporation, which will “manage the Agri-Cube Hydroponic Farm within the guidelines of the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act”.

“Being the first-of-its kind in Singapore and the region, the Agri-Cube Hydroponic Farm supports temperate-climate crops such as Italian parsley, peppermint and sweet basil which are suitable crops to be grown,” the spokesperson added. It will be ready upon completion of Lush Acres by end-2016.

Located at Fernvale Close in Sengkang, Lush Acres is currently 88 percent sold with first-timers accounting for 40 percent of its buyers. Unit prices range between S$718,000 and S$1.072 million.
