URA gets new boss

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has named Peter Ho Hak Ean as its new Chairman. He will take the place of Alan Chan whose term of service ended on 31 March.

Ho joined the URA on 1 December 2011 and formerly served as Senior Advisor to the Centre for Strategic Futures and Senior Fellow at the Civil Service College. He was also an Adjunct Professor with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy as well as the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies.    

In addition, Ho spent 34 years serving in the Singapore Administrative Service before retiring in 2010. His final post was as Head of Civil Service which he held simultaneously with other appointments including Permanent Secretary (Foreign Affairs), Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in the Prime Minister’s Office and Permanent Secretary (National Security and Intelligence Coordination). In 2007, he received the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal.

As for Chan, he became a member of the URA on 1 December 2005 and was named its Chairman on 1 April 2006.  

In a statement, the URA said, “Mr Chan was instrumental in the formulation of policies for the strategic management of URA’s financial resources as Chairman of the URA Finance and Investment Committee. He also provided substantial guidance to strengthen URA’s corporate governance.”

Meanwhile, 18 winning ideas for the Rail Corridor were unveiled at the “Journey of Possibilities” exhibition and awards ceremony held at the URA Centre Atrium last Friday. The winners were awarded by Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister of State for National Development.  

“The Ideas Competition has attracted more than 200 submissions from both local and overseas participants. Other than practitioners such as architects and landscape architects, local submissions also came from education institutions,” the URA said.

Aside from the winners, another 19 ideas which received honourable mention will be featured during the exhibition until 11 May. The URA added that the exhibition will showcase interesting suggestions and feedback posted on the Rail Corridor website.
