1,300 families benefited from rental scheme

24 Nov 2010

About 1,318 Singaporean families have benefited from the government’s Interim Rental Housing (IRH) scheme since it was launched in January 2009.

According to National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan, 311 of the total 1,318 families have since moved out of IRH flats.

The number of families who have benefited from the IRH scheme has increased since March this year. Then, 611 families had been helped and 87 families had moved on.

The IRH scheme was designed to provide temporary housing for needy families in times of financial difficulties while they worked out their housing issues. Under the IRH scheme, two families will have to share a three-room flat.

Mr. Mah said that sharing is necessary “to keep rents low for these families in financial difficulty.”
