Hello, I visited a room and made an offer to an agent. Now the agent ask me to transfer one-month deposit to a bank account. However, I did not sign any agreement yet. Is it normal ? Is it common practice here in Singapore ?

It is typically done simultaneously with the signing of the agreement. However, rental scams are also on the rise.

Do check that the agent is legitimate, and that the bank account belongs to a landlord who has the right to rent the place to you. It would also be a good idea to review the actual tenancy agreement in case there are clauses that you are going to disagree with.

I'm assuming you are not using a tenant agent, and there are typically many dangerous clauses on the contract that are pro-landlord, so you need to be careful about it before signing or you may get yourself into a bad contract.

All the best!
