HDB launches BTOs every quarter across a few HDB estates. With all the buzz from trending topics like Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones, you might have forgotten about HDB’s BTO launch this month.
A total of 3,480 new flats have been offered at Woodlands, Kallang/Whampoa, and Tengah. Offerings range from 2-room Flexi flats, all the way to 5-room flats.

The new Woodlands BTOs will be located along Champions Way, just opposite Singapore Sports School.
Currently, the nearest MRT is Woodlands MRT, which is a 20-minute walk away. However, the new Woodlands South MRT Station will only be a 9-minute walk away when it opens this year.
Those who commute by car will be glad to know that the BTOs are very close to Seletar Expressway (SLE).

What are the key amenities nearby?

Causeway Point is only 5-minutes away by car. There is a lot to do in this mall, whether it’s feasting on Korean fare, catching a late night movie, or shopping for just about anything you can think of.
If you want to experience the outdoors for a change, Woodlands Park Connector will be just right next to the BTOs. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll or jog along the trail which sits amidst lush greenery. Even if you prefer staying indoors, you’ll still be able to enjoy the scenic view.
Other recreational facilities in the vicinity include Woodlands Swimming Complex, Woodlands Sports Centre, Woodlands Stadium, and Woodlands Sports Hall. Options to stay fit and active are anything but lacking here.

Among the three May 2019 HDB BTOs, the Woodlands BTOs is the most affordable. However, the relatively small number of units to be launched could result in stiff competition among balloters. If your budget for getting a new BTO isn’t too large, a Woodlands BTO will be a great option to consider.

Kallang/Whampoa

Where will the Kallang/Whampoa BTOs be located and how accessible are they?

The Kallang/Whampoa BTOs will be located along Serangoon Road, just next to Boon Keng MRT. Farrer Park MRT (9-min walk) and Bendemeer MRT (11-min walk) are also close by. If you’re driving, the Central Expressway will only be about two roads down.
The central location and the multiple MRT stations nearby clearly makes the Kallang/Whampoa BTOs a highly accessible development.

What are the types of BTO flats offered?

Only 580 units will be launched, across 2-room Flexi, 3-room, and 4-room flat types.

What are the key amenities nearby?

City Square Mall is only a 10-minute walk away. Envisioned as a mini town-centre, the family-friendly mall has about 200 tenants encompassing retail, F&B, recreation and other services. Just across the road from City Square Mall is Mustafa Centre – a massive department store stocking everything from electronics to textiles at a great bargain.
The Kallang/Whampoa BTO site is also a 10-minute walk from the Whampoa Park Connector, which runs by the Kallang River. This will be a great spot for those looking for a great jogging spot or just somewhere to be close to nature.
A new polyclinic is also being built opposite the BTOs, and will be ready in 2020.

It’s not surprising that the latest Kallang/Whampoa BTO launch saw astronomical subscriptions, with more than 7,000 applications for the 850 units. With 520 flats offered this round, competition will probably be even tighter.
The Kallang/Whampoa BTOs are priced on the higher side, most probably because of its attractive location. Prices for 3-room and 4-room flats at Kallang/Whampoa appear to be more than double those at Woodlands.

Tengah

Where will the Tengah BTOs be located and how accessible are they?

The Tengah BTOs will be split into two parcels of land, both near each other. One will be along Tengah Boulevard, while the other will be along Plantation Crescent. Currently, these roads together with the rest of the planned Tengah estate land is a forested area.
When developed, the nearest MRT will be Tengah Plantation MRT. This station will be part of the upcoming Jurong Regional Line, which will open in stages from 2026. Bus stops will be within 300m of most homes, and there are plans to pilot self-driving cars in the district at a later stage.
The BTOs will be near the PIE, so future owners can still enjoy convenient access to other parts of the island.

What are the key amenities nearby?

Since the Tengah estate has not yet been developed, amenities near the BTO sites are currently limited. Nonetheless, the estate is set to have many attractive and novel features. These include not just green attractions, but smart and sustainable technology planned to be deployed across the estate.
One of Tengah’s most prominent features will the Forest Corridor. 100-metres wide and 5-kilometres long, the Forest Corridor will be fit for hiking, linking the Western Water Catchment Area and the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Central Park will be another key attraction. Spanning 20 hectares, the new park will have an amphitheatre accompanied by canals and ponds.
Both of the launch areas will be near to Market Place – Tengah’s future town centre. This will comprise a small shopping mall, a food centre, and a community club. Residents can also look forward to a new sports hub.

Tengah BTOs are still relatively affordable compared to those at Kallang/Whampoa. However, their prices are not as competitive as BTOs at Woodlands. With lush greenery, smart technology, and attractive prices, Tengah appears set to be a popular choice among new homeowners.
