This very district was once the site of many blood baths during the Second World War where thousands of Singaporeans fought to defend the island against the invading Japanese soldiers. This is the very reason a highly guarded military base is built within Lim Chu Kang along with a plague that delineates these historical battles and commemorate the soldiers.

From the 1980s, within District 24, Choa Chu Kang has been gradually developed as a HDB housing estate accompanied by a wide array of educational institutes including ITE West College, Pioneer Junior College and Bukit Panjang Government High School. Moreover, the region is served by several modes of public transport including the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, Choa Chu Kang LRT Station and the Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange.
