1 Walk-up for Rent - 1 Bedrooms in Chinatown / Tanjong Pagar

Along with District 1, District 2 forms an integral part of the Central Business District (CBD) of Singapore that spans Anson Road, Neil Road and Tanjong Pagar. The area has been developed over the years, as numerous skyscrapers that accommodate well-known multinational companies line the streets of District 2. This has become the very trait of District 2, which makes it hard to imagine as we consider its humble beginnings as a little town focused on fishing.

In District 2, both freehold and 99-year leasehold projects have been the top property options among potential buyers, even when they consist of only one- and two-bedder units. The Icon was the most popular property, although the project acquired the lowest average asking price among the top 5 at $2017 psf in 2013. The 68-unit Dorsett Residences located nearby Outram MRT Station that ranked 4^th, also received the highest average asking price of $2446 psf. (according to source no.2)

Chinatown forms District 2’s busy tourist attraction, as it distinctly features Chinese cultural elements and a historically concentrated ethnic Chinese population, though now in modern Singapore it is considerably less of an enclave than it was in the colonial period. Significant historical and cultural places of interest like the Chinatown Heritage Centre have been declared as national heritage sites by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore. You would also find many different Buddhist and Hindu temples that adorn Chinatown with its cultural richness. The historical significance of Chinatown is further reflected in its street architecture, especially the shophouses, that combine the various elements of baroque and Victorian design. Chinatown is now known for its wide array of delicious and affordable Chinese and other Singaporean local cuisine and eateries which includes Restaurant Ember at Hotel 1929 and the Qun Zhong Eating House.

As you delve deeper and explore District 2 further, you will discover other Singaporean treasure troves less commonly known to tourists and expatriates in Tanjong Pagar. Here, the night scene is thriving landscape, as it features many different pubs, clubs and KTV bars along Tras Street. You also can’t possible miss the Tanjong Pagar Plaza that is a slew of shophouses built to accommodate businesses by the Housing Development Board (HDB) of Singapore. The food centre is noted for its local dishes including nasi lemak and fish soup. Another notable food paradise would be Maxwell Food Centre that features delicious chicken rice. Over the past few years, Tanjong Pagar has been known as the “Little Korea” as new Korean eateries have sprung up to cater to the taste buds of the growing Korean community in Singapore.
