we are from Switzerland and China. we contacted one agent at PropertyGuru for rental in singapore. He simply introduced us to one company landlord. the landlord cheated us into one leasing contract. now the agent told us he has nothing to do with the case because he was not viewing or signing the contract. we happened to know another case: exactly the same agent, exactly the same landlord, both cases with young female students from abroad for six months. the agent posts the property, then introduced the ladies to the company landlord. the landlord cheated the ladies. then the agent denies any involvement. Is this OK? What could we do? What could Propertguru could do against such cases? thanks!

So sorry to hear about the situation. Did you verify the identity of the agent? For reporting of such incidents, please visit this link https://www.cea.gov.sg/consumers/complaints/report-a-salesperson-estate-agent to lodge a report against the agent. In addition, did you make any payment to the landlord in this instance when you sign the agreement? Did you verify the ownership of the property before you make such payment? There has been scam cases going around for rental properties, therefore it is important to verify the identity of the agent before you get into any engagement where payment is involved.

You can actually verify if the agent is a licensed agent at this link https://www.cea.gov.sg/aceas/public-register/sales/1 when you key in the necessary details especially the mobile number.

Hope the above helps.

I have been in the real estate business since 2009, with more than 13 years of experience serving the Singapore real estate market.

I am very active in the residential segment of Singapore real estate market, having transacted hundreds of deals from HDBs to private condominiums and landed properties in Singapore, and have handled many unique cases in sales and purchases as well as rental deals.

Over the years, I have also established a network reaching out to more than 9,400 expatriates, bringing my market presence to both in and outside of Singapore. This has created an additional exposure when I manage my client's portfolios, on top of the conventional on and offline platforms, where other estate agents are relying on. This has allowed me to consistently convert leads into results.

With an evolving market, where change is the only constant, I have also been investing in upgrading of my knowledge and skills sets to improve myself and meet the demands of current and future market.

thanks for help advise! unfortunately we paid deposit and the first month rental already. we moved out the second day due to the unbearable situation. now the landlord denies any wrongdoings and refuses to return the deposit, although we have written evidence. we checked the identity of the agent. he is a licensed agent in Singapore. therefore, we trusted him very much. it seems we have to file a report to cea. thanks again for the advises.
Hi,

If you have any evidence, you may report this agent to the CEA and let the relevant governing body deal with him or her.
