We are currently waiting for our HDB BTO to be ready and key collection is comin next year. However, I recently received a job offer from a company overseas and the career prospects are better if I stay in Singapore and my family will be coming with me. Therefore, we are facing a situation where we have to leave our flat empty as we are not allowed to rent it out during MOP. My questions are:
1.) Does anyone know the success rate of getting an exemption from HDB due to overseas work?
2.) Should HDB reject my request for exemption, will I face the double jeopardy of i) not being able to clock my MOP since we are not living in the flat, ii) not able to rent it out? Has this happened to anyone before?
Other information: We are currently living in a HDB RESALE flat (not on HDB loan) which we will need to sell before collecting keys for the new BTO. We applied for the new flat using the Third Child Priority Scheme.
I understand the HDB rules on MOP very well, and would like to have specific answers to my questions on anecdotal incidences. Please reply only if you have known someone who has had a similar situation and appealed to HDB.

From what I have come across so far, the HDB branch reviewing the appeal is not rigidly strict and is open to considering all circumstances as long as its a genuine case backed up by documentation. After all this will cause financial stress to your situation amid this uncertain economic environment of higher interest rates. So I think this "double whammy" scenario you are referring to is unlikely to materalize since you have good reasons and the approval usually also comes with validity period say 6 or 12 months and is subject to regular review. Ultimately though HDB has the discretion on whether to approve still, so I will say we take 1 step at a time, and if they turn down the appeal, we can find out the reasons and try to appeal further perhaps with MP's inputs. thanks for your reply. I will need some advice with the application and finding a tenant. Have you heard of a double jeopardy situation where they reject and MOP doesn't run just like I described?
