Is it true property prices will be halved by 2014?

Hi Terence,
No one can tell for sure what will happen to property prices in the future. However, in my own opinion, (putting my reputation on the line), property prices will not be halved.
1. Govt will not want that to happen
2. Current stabilization of prices are due to govt measures
Given both conditions are correct, If prices drop drastically, all govt need to do is to remove the cooling measures.
Of course, i might be wrong. :)

Please do not be taken in by such statement. Property prices dropping by 50% would have adverse effect on the our market. People who have invested would lose more than you can expect. Banks would be getting the property owners to top up the possible difference and this would result in fore-closure. Investors would lose faith in our system. Do you think Singapore government would allow our economy to come to this stage?
However, if other huge markets like Euro, US, India, Japan, China were to experience similar situation, then it would be a global financial and economy melt-down. Would you still buy under such time?

Nobody can crystal ball what will happen in the future. Late last year there were newspaper report quoting an analyst from Standchart saying prices will drop by 30% but the market has hold up.
I believe for property prices to crash by half meant that the economy as a whole will have crashed too and that jobless rates are incredible so much so that mortgages cannot be repaid and owners just have to offload.
