If I exercise the option to renew my current 2-year lease for another year, and it contains a 12+2 diplomatic clause, would I be able to terminate the renewed lease with two months notice (which is what I've been able to do since completing the first year of my original lease).

You will need to put that condition up to negotiate on the renewal if it is something you need to have. Otherwise, if you have gone on to another apartment, the same first 12 months lock in period would probably also apply. Key in all negotiations is to be open about needs and be genuine and I am quite confident things should turn out well.

I should have been clearer. My current lease has the option to renew for a year and keep all the terms and conditions of the original lease (except for the rent and the option to renew). Given that my current lease includes the diplomatic clause, can I renew the lease for a year and be able to terminate with 2 months notice if I'm leaving Singapore. What I'm confused about is whether the renewal resets the clock on the 12+2 (which doesn't make sense to me as the renewal is only for a year, so doing so basically renders the diplomatic clause moot).
The old lease allows you an option to renew with all terms and conditions similar, however, you can propose to include your latest requirements to include the diplomatic clause concurrently based on your concerns and allow the landlord to consider whether to accept or not. All terms and conditions in tenancy are subjected to both parties agreement.

I have pointed out another perspective in that should your landlord refuse your request of diplomatic clause within this 1 year of renewal and you decide to seek a fresh apartment for lease, it is also very likely that you will be locked in for 12 months.
