I have just taken over the lease of a condo as the previous tenant had to leave early, so I have signed a novation agreement with them. Do I need to pay stamp duty? Reading the IRAS website, it looks as though stamp duty for a novation was abolished in 2011? Can you confirm if that is the case? It seems a bit unfair for us both to have paid stamp duty!
