Hi Sir,

Just seeking legal advise. My Landlord is not returning my deposit even if we don't have contract or tenancy of agreement. I live in his dirty landed property less than one month because i cannot take the messy building, rats and cockroaches, faulty equipments and dirty environment. Do I have the right to get back my deposit? The other tenants also just moved out because of the URA requirements just recently under surveillance. Please advise

Dear tenant,

I am not in a capacity to provide any legal advise to you. It would be better to speak to a lawyer if you require proper legal advise.

I am just curious how did you end up in such a situation where deposit is handed to the landlord even without a proper contract being signed? Were there any viewings done before you decide on staying in this so called filthy place? And also what do you mean by other tenants also just moved out because of the URA requirements just recently under surveillance?

    Hi Sir, thanks for your reply. I ended up in this situation to gave the deposit and advance payment because the landlord said i cannot moved in if I haven't paid. Before I moved in, he said to do this, to do that, but he never did the repairs. I really need to moved in to this place because I wanted to relocate nearer to my office. It is a landed property according to URA, should have 8 tenants only but there were aabout 21-25 tenants in the building so when the URA surveillanced the area, the landlord relocated the other tenants to his another property which is not on URA's reached. When I gave him my advace and deposit he told me to follow the tenancy agreement or contract.
