Hi,

1) In general you are not allowed to keep an HDB flat after owning private residential property.
2) If you are intending to keep the HDB flat, you must meet the eligibility criteria before being allowed to do so.
3) Once you are legally owning the HDB flat, you have to dispose of your private property within 6 months or dispose of the HDB flat within 6 months.
4) You may appeal to the HDB to keep it. However, unless your reason is superb convincing chances of approval are rather slim.

Dear Sir/Mdm,

If the HDB is a non subsidized one then you will be able to keep the HDB. However, if it is a subsidized one then you will need to sell off the HDB.

Good evening Sir/ Mdm,

You will be eligible to inherit your mom's HDB if her HDB is non subsidized flat (not BTO or resale HDB with housing grant) and purchased before 30 august 2010 if not you will not be eligible to do so.

For further confirmation, you can check with HDB and lawyer as well.

As the flat was purchased before 30 August 2010, it will now depends on whether the flat was a subsidized flat.

If it is a subsidized flat (BTO or resale flat with housing grant), then you will given a choice to sell off one of the properties, the inherited flat, or your private property.

If it is a non-subsidized flat, then you will be able to keep hold of the HDB flat, while still owning your private property.
