Ang Mo Kio literally means ‘Westerner's bridge' in Hokkien, a term derived from Westerners who had settled in this region in the early days. The area has very recently undergone extensive redevelopment, of which residential development plans account for a majority. The residential segment with HDB estates comprising of apartment and condominium blocks available throughout the region, has achieved immense popularity.
