Living in Woodlands isn’t as boring as you might think. It’s filled with amenities that allow its residents to eat, play, shop and relax without leaving the area.

Food Scene

Lovers of local food do not need to fret that they cannot indulge in their favourite dishes if they are in Woodlands. The estate has numerous hawker centres and coffeehouses selling a wide variety of local delights.

There are three Broadway outlets in Woodlands selling all kinds of local favourites including chicken rice, nasi lemak, roast meats and fishball noodles. The recently renovated Marsiling Lane Food Centre is also popular with nearby residents. The vegetarian noodles and Malay food stalls found attract long queues. NTUC Foodfare at Admiralty Place is another hidden gem in Woodlands with its affordable and delicious offerings.

Foodies can also enjoy their local delights in air-conditioned comfort. Just head to Causeway Point where they can enjoy the famous nasi lemak from Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak, curry puffs from Old Chang Kee and coffee from Ya Kun Kaya Toast. They can also tuck in to all manner of affordable dishes at Food Republic.

In addition, there is no shortage of fast food outlets in Causeway Point including 4 Fingers, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s, MOS Burger and Pizza Hut. Families will also be glad to find a number of family friendly restaurants in the mall ranging from Japanese restaurants such as Ajisen Ramen and Ichiban Boshi to Chinese restaurants such as Crystal Jade and Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert, and not forgetting familiar favourites such Swensen’s and The Manhattan Fish Market.

Shopping

Causeway Point is the main shopping mall in Woodlands. It is located beside Woodlands MRT station and has some 250 outlets with Cold Storage, Courts, Food Republic and Cathay Cineplex as anchor tenants.

The fashion and beauty offerings in Causeway Point can easily rival those found in any suburban mall. Adidas, Charles & Keith, Cotton On, Clinique, Fox Kids & Baby, innisfree, Levi’s, Mothercare, Rubi Shoes and Sasa are all found in the mall. There is also a Metro departmental store selling not just fashion but also all kinds of household wares.

Besides Causeway Point, there are also a number of neighbourhood shops where residents can buy their daily necessities. Admiralty Place, located beside Admiralty MRT Station, has a wet market and a mix of shops selling food and household goods. Woodlands North Plaza, located along Woodlands Street 82, also has a wet market. In addition, there is an old-school bakery and a store promising that its goods are the cheapest in the whole of Singapore!

Residents of Woodlands also have the option of making a quick day trip to Johor Bahru to fill their bellies and stock up on groceries before heading back home!

Health and fitness

Gym rats living in Woodlands can work out any time they want because there are two Anytime Fitness gyms in the area. The gym chain offers 24-hour access at all of its gyms as well as free classes and shower facilities to all members. Anytime Fitness has two branches in Woodlands. One is located along Woodlands Avenue 1 and the other is located along Woodlands Avenue 6.

Women in Woodlands can also join women only gyms located conveniently near their home. Contours Express Women’s Gym at Woodlands Street 81 offers its members personal coaching and tracking as well as women-centric equipment. Ladies can also work up a sweat at Amore Fitness & Beauty Spa located at Woodlands Civic Centre. Besides the usual gym equipment and classes, members can also pamper themselves with spa treatments.

Parks and Nature

Nature lovers will love living in Woodlands because it is home to two unique parks.

Woodlands Waterfront Park along Admiralty Road West is a beautiful coastal park with the longest jetty in Singapore. The view from the 1.5km waterfront promenade is unbeatable. Evening time will see many joggers and cyclists exercising along the promenade.

Admiralty Park is also popular with Woodlands residents, especially bird watchers and families with young children. A unique feature of the park is the Sungei Cina river running through it. The 20ha park also has a diverse mix of secondary forests, mangrove and open grassland habitats; making it home to more than 100 species of flora and fauna as well as hordes of dragonflies and many different species of birds.

In addition, Admiralty Park features an inclusive playground that supports play between children with and without special needs. The park also has the widest and longest slide in a public park.

Woodlands is packed with activities suitable for the entire family. Foodies will have no lack of affordable local dishes while families will have many choices to pick from for their day out with the kids.

When it comes to shopping, the offerings in Causeway Point definitely do not lose to other suburban malls. Bargain hunters can check out some of the neighbourhood stores or head across the Causeway to Johor Bahru.

Residents of Woodlands are also blessed with two beautiful parks where they can jog or cycle among nature. If they prefer to exercise in air-conditioned comfort, they can head to any of the many gyms in the neighbourhood.
