Living in Serangoon

Serangoon has enough attractions to not only satisfy its 120,000 plus residents, but to attract visitors in from neighbouring areas like Potong Pasir and Bidadari. Put simply, it pretty much has something of everything for everyone.

Food Scene

In many ways, Serangoon is the perfect representation of Singapore – in the way that it marries western and local culture almost seamlessly. This is never more evident than in the area’s dining options. Chomp Chomp is one of the best known – and best loved, food centres not just in the North East, but on the whole island.

A hop, skip and jump away in Serangoon Gardens, there is more local fare but also a heady mix of hipster cafes, craft beer joints and vintage pubs. Elsewhere, Serangoon Nex provides a good selection of dining options.

Shopping

This is Singapore, so of course there is shopping, and good shopping at that. Nex, the largest mall in the region, is the star attraction. It has all of the international brands you would expect, spread over its seven modern floors. For night owls it has a 24-hour Cold Storage, 24-hour FairPrice Xtra and 24hour Anytime Fitness. It also houses a Shaw Theatre and library.

The Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre has admittedly seen better days. Footfall is low, perhaps as a result of the large number of empty shops. Rumours are that it will be renovated in the near future. When this happens, it’ll bring more modern amenities to residents at Serangoon Gardens.

Health and Fitness

Serangoon Stadium is a modern multi-purpose sports stadium located where Boundary Road meets Yio Chu Kang Road. An all-weather athletics track orbits the football pitch while the stand holds up to 1,200 people. Next door is the Serangoon Swimming Complex. Talking of swimming, the members only Serangoon Garden Country Club boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool amongst its facilities along with tennis and squash courts.

Serangoon CC is one of the island’s most forward-thinking community clubs, something that is evident before you even step inside. Located on 10 Serangoon North Avenue 2, the eye-catching building is fronted with coloured windows, and as a club was the first to hold German language classes. Other events include the very tempting Coffee Gourmet Class.

Centrally located and close to numerous amenities, Serangoon Gardens has developed over the years to become a popular housing estate among locals and expatriates. This has contributed to a rise in property values and rental demand in the area.

We expect prices of new launches in the area to increase over time, but it will still be more affordable compared to Bidadari or Potong Pasir.
