Novena is a compact area and it does not have natural terrain such as large hills, nature reserves or reservoirs that make getting to, from and around the area tricky. It also has a lot of major roadways and a good MRT network. Novena MRT station on the North South Line is the main transport hub, with Newton, Stevens and Botanic Gardens, all on the Downtown Line and on its southern boundary.
Thomson Road, Newton Road and Moulmein Road all bisect Novena, carrying with them several bus services. There is also the Central Expressway, the PIE and Bukit Timah Road. The North South Corridor is due to pass through the east of the area (in a tunnel).
