Living in Jurong: Food Scene
Living in Jurong means residents needn’t go far to fill their bellies. Just head to any of the nearby malls!
JEM has a good mix of local and international restaurants. Fans of affordable local fare can head to Cookhouse by Koufu or EAT. Families looking for good Chinese food can choose from Dian Xiao Er or Din Tai Fung before popping over to Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert to end the meal with something sweet. Teenagers can indulge in their favourite Korean food in BiBim or Nipong Naepong.
Those looking for a fiery kick to their food can head to Westgate. Foodies can try the famous laksa from 328 Katong Laksa or enjoy some local delights from PappaRich. Those looking for something other than local fare can pop over to Bowl Thai for some Thai food or chow down on some Indian curry from Zaffron Kitchen. Those looking for healthier options can grab a refreshing salad from Greendot and Smoothie House.
Teenagers will love Jurong Point because it has plenty of fast food and causal restaurants for them to hang out and chill with their friends. Burger King, Carl’s Junior, 4 Fingers, Fish & Co, KFC, Krispy Kreme, MOS Burger, McDonald’s, Pepper Lunch, Pizza Hut and Starbucks can all be found at the mall. Fans of old-school restaurants will also love Jurong Point where there is a branch of the famous Westlake Chinese restaurant.
Shopping
Fashionistas living in Jurong have no problems looking for places to shop. Their only headache might be which mall to go first. Residents are lucky to have five malls in their neighbourhood.
Westgate and JEM are the newer malls in Jurong. Both malls are located within walking distance of Jurong East MRT station. Both malls also offer a wide variety of shops that can easily rival any suburban mall which makes living in Jurong fun.
Bookworms will definitely prefer JEM because it has Books Kinokuinya. However, Westgate offers more beauty products and services with Sephora, Clarins, FANCL and Strip. The battle will swing back to JEM for fans of streetwear because the mall has Converse, Adidas, Crumpler, Kipling, H&M and Vans. However, parents will prefer Westgate for its kids oriented stores such as Kiddy Palace, Kidz Party Store and Timezone.
Jurong Point and JCube may be older than the other two malls, but it has its own attraction. A wide variety of offerings ranging from furniture from Harvey Norman to toys from Lego can be found in Jurong Point. JCube will appeal to geeks because it has a number of electronic and technology stores such as Geek Box, JML and Popsical as well as an IMAX cinema.
Bargain hunters will make a beeline for IMM where all kinds of fashion brands are sold for a fraction of their retail price. Some brands at IMM include agnes b., BritishIndia, Calvin Klein Jeans, Charles & Keith, Cole Haan, Fred Perry, G-Shock, FURLA, Guess, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Nike, Outlet by Club 21, Under Armour and Owndays.

Health and Fitness
Those living in Jurong are spoilt for choice when it comes to sporting activities.
JCube is home to Singapore’s first Olympic-size ice rink. Gym rats can also head to JCube where there is Gymmboxx which offers 24-hours access, personal trainers, basic gym equipment and shower facilities. Those who do not like to sign up for gym memberships will be pleased to learn that the gym also allows customers to pay on a per entry basis.
Those who prefer yoga can head to Westgate for yoga classes at Platinum Yoga. Ladies can go to Amore Fitness & Boutique Spa at Jurong Point where they can pamper themselves after a hard workout.
Families can hang out at SAFRA Jurong where the kids can play football while daddy works out at the gym and mummy enjoys a swim in the pool. Thereafter, the whole family can meet at the restaurant in the club for a satisfying meal before heading home.

Parks and Nature
There is a good chance that bird lovers who live in Jurong are spending most of their free time in Jurong Bird Park! The beautifully landscaped park houses about 5,000 birds of 380 species. The 20ha park also has the world’s tallest man-made indoor waterfall which stands at a towering 35m!
Families can head to Jurong Central Park, which is the first park in Singapore to feature life-sized board games. There, family and friends can have countless hours of fun playing a super-sized version of childhood favourites such as snake-and-ladder.
Joggers can jog along the beautifully landscaped Jurong Park Connector which will bring them to the Japanese and Chinese Gardens that overlook Jurong Lake. Joggers can enjoy their run among unique Chinese pavilions and pagodas as well as Japanese-inspired rock waterfalls and bridges. Joggers can also admire beautiful sunset views over Jurong Lake.
Meanwhile, the first phase of the 90-hectare Jurong Lake Gardens has opened to the public. Dubbed Lakeside Garden, the 53-hectare western section of Jurong Lake Gardens is the first national gardens within the heartlands and includes a boardwalk, wetland trails and water sport facilities.
