Made up of Mandai and Thomson, District 26 is filled with many places to visit, eat and relax. Located in the North-Eastern region of Singapore, it is a thriving residential area where a myriad of facilities and amenities have sprung up over the years. Here, landed properties including terraced houses make up for the bulk of residential property types. Such estates include the Teacher’s Estate in Upper Thomson which used to be a main residential area for public teachers and civil servants; which is currently where the Singapore’s Teacher’s Union is situated. There is a considerable number of apartments like the Meadows @ Peirce, Atelier Villas and Bullion Park exist across the area.

The main region of District 26, Upper Thomson is served by Thomson Plaza which is a local shopping centre that is known for its numerous tuition and enrichment centres along with other music and dance studios like Yamaha. In addition, Upper Thomson acquires a slew of well-known roti prata stalls as well as pockets of cafes like Little Part 1 and Little Pancakes that attract crowds of customers during the weekends. The Upper Thomson Longhouse food centre also offers a wide array of delicious local food including chicken rice. Several places for leisure also cater to the lifestyle of the upper-middle class echelon and include the Island Golf Course, Singapore Polo Club and numerous plant nurseries like Far East Flora which provide garden landscaping and flower delivery services. Apart from the various leisure activities that Upper Thomson has to offer, it also offers a wide range of medical facilities comprising the Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Alvernia Medical Centre, Tampines Home and the Assisi Home and Hospice. Charitable organisations in the area also include the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Theresa’s Home and Tiding for the Disable Association of Singapore.

To the North of Upper Thomson is the other main region of District 26, Mandai, which is more elusive as compared to the more urbanized region of Upper Thomson. The main highlights of Mandai are the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. In 2012, the River Safari was built right beside these two tourist attractions. Mandai has also been associated with regular military training, and encompasses three major training areas including Kwok Min, Asrama/Ulu Sembawang, Mandan Bumbong, Gali Batu and Mandai Central.
