What should I do if Landlord wants to increase the rent in a whole unit rental Renewal Tenancy Agreement (both landlord and I have signed)?

The difference is not huge (100 dollars). My agent stated that I can go the legal way to try to resolve the case as the landlord has already agreed on a previous price. However, this might burn the bridge for me and the landlord. We are worried to have our deposit not returned by the landlord as there are so many instances we heard from our friends. Besides, the agent says it will be legal costs involved.

However, we are really annoyed that the landlord has eaten her words in such a short period of time and wouldn't want to give up our rights. We will try to negotiate first but if things go wrong we have to go the legal way.

Can I know what is normally the legal cost for such a dispute if we go that way (after negotiation)? And what is the process for it?

Besides, where can we complain if the landlord refuses to return the security deposit?

Thanks in advance.

Communicate nicely to landlord that basing on the tenancy agreement, she has no rights to increase the rental and explain the situation in vice versa scenarios, where you can adjust rental downwards if rental market goes down?

Need not go headstrong into rebutting and mention about going through the legal ways if there are ways to communicate nicely and explain the situation.

I have been in the real estate business since 2009, with more than 13 years of experience serving the Singapore real estate market.

I am very active in the residential segment of Singapore real estate market, having transacted hundreds of deals from HDBs to private condominiums and landed properties in Singapore, and have handled many unique cases in sales and purchases as well as rental deals.

Over the years, I have also established a network reaching out to more than 9,400 expatriates, bringing my market presence to both in and outside of Singapore. This has created an additional exposure when I manage my client's portfolios, on top of the conventional on and offline platforms, where other estate agents are relying on. This has allowed me to consistently convert leads into results.

With an evolving market, where change is the only constant, I have also been investing in upgrading of my knowledge and skills sets to improve myself and meet the demands of current and future market.
