We are a tenant coming to the end of 4 years (2x2 year terms) renting a condo under a standard contract.
2 months before the end of the contract we attempted to contact the landlord to check that they were good to renew, but they didn't answer this question despite repeated attempted to ask. The only response we got was that their agent will be in touch (which didn't happen).
3 weeks before the end of the lease, we have been told we need to vacate. Not even a small extension is possible because he sold the property 6 months ago. Is the landlord allowed to do this? Isn't it standard that 2 months notice should be given to the tenant by the landlord if they do not intend to renew or should I have just known that no response from the landlord means they are not going to renew? Do I have any rights here?
