Hi, I am planning to sell my 4 room hdb which I bought from resale open market with HDB housing grant. I want to buy a new BTO 4 room flat direct from HDB. I know I must pay a resale levy but my question is - Is there any way that I can be exempted from paying the levy? for example, if I don't take the subsidy from HDB can I then be exempted from paying the levy?

Afternoon Sonia,

You have to understand that BTO are subsidised already (cheaper than resale HDBs) so no matter what you have to fork out the resale levy. Unless you give up the thought of owning a BTO which means other alternatives like new EC, you wont be required to fork out the resale levy.

If you will like to appeal on exemption for resale levy payment, you can try calling HDB hotline. Maybe at least you know you try.

Hope it helps!
