Another quick general question i have:

Am I allowed to rent another place to stay (e.g. HDB flat, condo) while I'm in the process of selling my current HDB resale flat and have not yet found a buyer?

Or is it a HDB rule that I MUST find a confirmed buyer for my current flat 1st, before I can even start to rent another place to stay?

    Reason why I asked that question was because in future when the time comes for me to sell my current flat, a situation might arise where I need to rent another place to stay while I'm still trying to find a buyer for my current flat.

    So I just wanted to know whether such an option is available for me.
Hi, yes you can rent another place to stay while selling your current resale flat, however can i check what's the rationale for doing so? There is also no such rule that prevents you from renting a place to stay while selling your flat.

Hi John,

1) I just had an in-depth discussion over this matter with a client yesterday.
2) They wished to stay in the current estate till the end of next year while has a need to purchase an HDB flat in another estate at mid of next year.
3) Therefore the best solution to such a situation is to rent an HDB flat to minimize the cost and be able to meet other plans.
4) The current extension stay of 3 months cannot fulfill their requirement of staying for more than 9 months after selling.
5) For the current URA policy, the minimum rental period for a private residential is 3 months and the HDB flat is 6 months.
6) But, no landlord wanted to go through such hassle of changing tenants in such a short period.
7) A minimum of 12-month rental period is most commonly seen in the market.
8) So, you have to be prepared to pay for 12-month rent regardless of whether you have a need to occupy the premises for 12 months.
