District 24 comprising Lim Chu Kang and Choa Chu Kang occupies the far north-western region of Singapore that houses Singapore’s 4 reservoirs namely Murai, Tengeh, Sarimbum and Poyan. Various farms, a forest reserve, campsites and cemeteries also scatter across the area, making it a rather deserted region of Singapore. It is however frequented during the holidays by school students for their various activities including adventure or leadership camps, for the Girl Guide’s Camp Site and the Boy Scouts’ Camp Site. Moreover, students and other tourists are attracted to the area for their wide variety of farms that include the Hay Dairies Farm, Fire Flies Heath Farm, Jurong Frog Farm, and the Quan Fa Vegetable Farm. The Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve and the Lim Chu Kang Jetty also attract a considerable number of visitors to the area too. Numerous cemeteries catered to the burial of people of different faiths including Christian, Muslim, Chinese, Bahai, Jewish, Ahmaddiya Jama’at, Parsi and Lawn Faiths can also be found here.

Lim Chu Kang was founded in the 1900s by Neo Tiew, a Chinese Immigrant, who developed what was formerly known as Ama Keng Village. Later on, Neo established Kay Wah School which is known as Qihua Primary today and also commissioned the Kay Wah Temple which still stands in the area today. This very district was once the site of many blood baths during the Second World War where thousands of Singaporeans fought to defend the island against the invading Japanese soldiers. This is the very reason a highly guarded military base is built within Lim Chu Kang along with a plague that delineates these historical battles and commemorate the soldiers.
From the 1980s, within District 24, Choa Chu Kang has been gradually developed as a HDB housing estate accompanied by a wide array of educational institutes including ITE West College, Pioneer Junior College and Bukit Panjang Government High School. Moreover, the region is served by several modes of public transport including the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, Choa Chu Kang LRT Station and the Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange. Contrary to popular misconceptions, recreational places are also abound within the area, with shopping centres like Lot One, Junction 10, Yew Tee Square and Yew Tew Point being constructed and developed over the years. Several sports complexes like the Choa Chu Kang Stadium and the Choa Chu Kang Swimming Complex; and parks including the Tembusu Park also offer nearby residents with facilities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
