A real estate agent is a person who deals in property on your behalf. He could be involved in all aspects of the buying, selling or renting of private property, HDB flats or commercial property.
Engaging an agent is a private contractual agreement between you as a buyer or seller of a property and the agent. Once the terms of the contract have been agreed upon, both parties should sign an upfront agreement stating the terms of service, commission payable, period of representation, marketing costs, exclusivity (if any) and any other terms.
Working with an agent has its benefits: they can take care of advertising, house viewings and dealing with the paperwork. They are more familiar with the rules and procedures and can smoothen the transaction process.
